Create a Template Search

Create a Template Search so every new search starts with your default filters, columns, sort order, view, and map settings.

Use this article to create a Template Search, start new searches from it, change its settings, or turn it off.

Save your default settings for a Template Search

Start from a new search so no filters carry over from a previous search, then set up the default settings you want new searches to start with and save it. A Template Search saves these settings:

  • Filters: The search criteria on the Filters tab.

  • Sort order: How listings are sorted in your search results.

  • Columns: Which columns display in your search results and their order.

  • View: The results view, such as List or Expanded.

  • Map: The map's zoom, position, layer, and size, and whether the map is hidden.

Steps:

  1. Click Search in the top navigation

  2. Click Start New in the upper right

  3. Set your filters on the Filters tab

  4. Click the Results tab

  5. Click a column header to set the sort order

  6. Select a results view next to View

  7. Set your columns and their order from the Columns menu

  8. Adjust the map's size, zoom, position, and layer, or hide the map

  9. Click Save in the upper left of the Search page

  10. Enter a name in the Name this search field of the New Search window

  11. Click Save in the New Search window

The search is saved and appears in the My Searches window. Next, set it as your Template Search.

Create a Search with Filters covers setting filters and sorting results. Customize Your Search Results View covers views, columns, and map settings.

Set a saved search as your Template Search

Set any saved search as your Template Search from the My Searches window.

Steps:

  1. Click Saved Searches, or the name of the open saved search, in the upper left of the Search page

  2. Click the star icon next to the saved search

The star turns green, and new searches start with the settings saved in your Template Search.

Only one saved search can be your Template Search at a time. Click the star next to another saved search to make it your Template Search instead.

If you have a default column template, the Template Search determines the columns for new searches.

Start a new search from your Template Search

Start a new search from either the Search page or the My Searches window:

  • Search page: Click Start New in the upper right.

  • My Searches window: Click Saved Searches, or the name of the open saved search. Click New Search in the lower left of the window.

The new search opens with the settings saved in your Template Search. Changing or saving the new search does not affect your Template Search.

To save the new search, click Save, enter a name in the New Search window, then click Save. An orange dot on the Save button indicates unsaved changes.

Change or turn off your Template Search

A filled green star in the My Searches window marks your current Template Search.

Change your Template Search settings

Open your Template Search and change the settings you want new searches to start with.

Steps:

  1. Click Saved Searches, or the name of the open saved search, in the upper left of the Search page

  2. Click your Template Search in the My Searches window

  3. Change the settings

  4. Click Save

  5. Click Update Current in the Save Search window

New searches start with the updated Template Search settings.

Turn off your Template Search

Turn off your Template Search from the My Searches window.

Steps:

  1. Click Saved Searches, or the name of the open saved search, in the upper left of the Search page

  2. Click the filled green star next to your Template Search

The star clears, and new searches start with the standard search settings.
